It’s almost Christmas time… and I tend to become a little nostalgic. I love a great story and even more… a happy ending. I’ve read this story several times, but I wanted to share it with you.
We all know about rescue pugs… and the condition some of them are in when the Humane Society rescues them. Mikey was one of those pugs. Mikey, the pug was born with an eye problem, and instead of treating it, his owners neglected and abused him. When the Michigan Humane Society got him, he was in bad shape. He had an immune disorder that was caused from mites and also glaucoma in his eyes. The diseases were causing him go blind and he was in terrible pain. The veterinarians treating Mikey decided the only way he could live a normal life was to remove both eyes. So… that ‘s what they did!!
Now, who would want a pug with no eyes?? A judge… that’s who!!
Judge Sabrina Johnson, a District court judge in Michigan, fell in love with Mikey decided to adopt him and despite all he’s been through, he now has a wonderful life with his mom. Sabrina said both of their lives have changed… for the better. Johnson deals with tough cases everyday at work, but Mikey makes her smile.
Judge Sabrina takes Mikey to work with her and he has captured the hearts of everyone there. She said no one knows Mikey is blind until she tells them.
“When people meet him, they melt,” said Judge Sabrina. “I’ve seen very tough police officers just get down on their hands and knees, just play with him. He brightens everyone’s day.”
After several months of recuperation, Mikey has fully recovered. Judge Sabrina says he inspires others with his cheerful disposition and ability to bounce back after what he went through.
“Sometimes when we’re walking in the park, he’ll get going and run into a tree,” she said. “He simply backs up, shakes it off and keeps moving. He really has taught me about how to live life.
“I got him from rescue, and he really rescued me,” Johnson said. “He’s just the love of my life.”
Isn’t this a wonderful story. I love stories like this. What a GREAT ENDING for this little pug. Thank you, Judge Sabrina for adopting little Mikey and giving him the life he deserves.
