Dogs have captured our fascination. And why not? They enrich our lives in so many ways.

Here are five random numbers about dogs that will have your heads spinning (especially those not good at math):

Ever wish you could lose a few pounds? The heaviest dog ever probably didn’t worry about his weight. An English mastiff named Aicama Zorba tipped the scales at a whopping 343 pounds. (A typical male mastiff normally weighs 160 to 230 pounds.)
In these inflationary times, we are all trying to save a dollar. But if the economic data is any indication, Americans won’t hesitate to open their wallets and spend on their furry friends. Pet spending in the U.S. was estimated to be nearly $110 billion in 2021, according to the American Pet Products Association. The average owner spent $1,201 on the dogs in 2021.
Dogs have 321 bones and 42 permanent teeth. By comparison, a human adult has between 206 and 213 bones, and usually 32 teeth. No bones about it, dogs got us beat on both.
Have you done your workout today? Greyhounds can run up to 45 miles per hour. By comparison, the world’s fastest man remains Jamaican track star Usain Bolt, whose 100-meter race time at the 2009 World Championships was calculated at 23.4 miles per hour.
