That means most likely there were pets involved in these crashes since a lot of people travel with their pets. According to recent statistics, approx. 80% of those pets were likely unrestrained. This are no solid statistics for how many dog are killed every year in car crashes because most go unreported.

If a person crashes a car driving at a speed of 25 mph, a dog that is not restrained can be thrown forward at a force that is equal to 40 times what the dog weighs. That means that a large dog that weighs 75 lbs. can hit the dash or windshield with a force of 3,000 lbs, which is most likely going to be fatal.
Even a smaller dog can hit the dash or windshield at a force of 300 lbs. in a crash with a car driving only 30 mph.
