Pugpalooza Pug of the Month- “Butters”

Read Time:3 Minute, 32 Second

Butters lives in Edwardsville, Kansas with his mom, Connie Kabler. She purchased Butters from a wonderful breeder called “On the Edge Puggers” in Webb City, Missouri.

Snores like a freight train, but loves to cuddle

Butters sleeps with his mom. According to Connie, “he snores like a freight train, he always sleeps curled up against my belly, and he does hog the bed sometimes.”

Kennel-trained and loves his walks

Butter doesn’t mind having his photo taken- he had a photo taken with Santa Claus last year. Connie said Butter stays in a kennel when he’s home alone but he has a toy and his BullBuddy. Connie also turns on the television to a dog channel-usually Lucky Dog- so he has some noise. Butters was kennel-trained when he was little until he was old enough to sleep in Connie’s bed.

Butters and his mom walk several times a day around their neighborhood. Connie said that Butters doesn’t care where they go- as long as he gets to walk.

Butter loves other dogs and wants to play with them all. Connie said they take him to the dog park so he can play with his other pug friends. Butter barks at dogs on the tv, big trucks that go by and other sounds only he can hear. Connie talks to Butter all day because she works from home, though she’s not sure he understands everything she says. He does, however, understand quite a few words and has a pretty extensive vocabulary. He sleeps four or five hours a day, while Connie works, but then is up playing until bedtime.

Butter is not sure he likes to swim. Connie said that he ran into a lake once, but then right back out. He did dip his feet back in the water, but that’s as far as he went. Butter has not been on any vacations yet, but Connie said she is looking forward to that experience.

Loves cheddar cheese and coffee

Butters eats Wellness Complete Small Breed dog food for puppies and Connie adds a spoonful of wet food to it (same brand). She also gives him an Omega Oil supplement that she said helps with shedding. He is a healthy 16 pounds. So far, Butters has no health issues. Butter does have some favorites though- he loves cheddar cheese, he hates milk bones and he would drink all of Connie’s coffee is she would let him.

Butters gets his teeth cleaned monthly at the groomer’s but Connie also gives him a denta stick daily to help clean his teeth and for his breath. Butters wears both a collar and a harness, but the collar is only for his tags. According to Connie, “The harness is the best way to go as you do not want anything choking them. I use the Akerpet Comfort Step-in Harness on Amazon.”

Tug-o-war and fetch are favorites

Butters favorite toy is his lamb chop toy from PetsMart. His favorite games are tug-o-war and fetch, which usually turns in to keep-a-way.

Connie is very happy with the vet they now use. She just recently switched clinics because she wanted a vet that had extensive experience with smooshy faced breeds. They use Kennedy’s Animal Climic in Raytown, Mo. and Connie said they are great!

Connie advises people who want a pug to be prepared for a very stubborn, but loving dog. She said pugs don’t understand personal space and you won’t ever pee alone again.

Why did Connie choose a pug?

“He is the best dog, so loyal, loving and quite the Ham- just a silly guy but super smart too. I wanted a pug because I just love their faces.”
