MEMORIES… When I think of memories, I think of laughter and tears. I think of my weaknesses and strengths. I think of people I’ve known and loved. I think of beautiful places that I’ve visited. I think of pets that I’ve loved and cherished. I think of where I’ve been and where I’m going.

We hang on to memories because they are important to us. We have great memories, and then some not-so-great memories, but either way, they are a part of us and have played a part in teaching us or helping us grow.

We want to hang on to memories… and we should. Memories remind us of past moments that we treasure or possibly want to forget. Memories remind us of precious moments that we’ve spent with people or pets that we loved and cherished. Remembering them makes us feel loved, cared for and valued.

One of my favorite Memories of Miss Molly!

Tonight, as I write this, I am reminded of a memory of Molly as a young puppy that makes me laugh often:

Jake and I moved to Manhattan,Kansas about 5 years ago. Molly was approximately one year old. We lived in a house about a block from the K-State gardens. Molly stayed home (in her kennel) while we worked, but when we came home, it was “Molly time.” She loved evenings because we would take her for a walk and play with her endlessly.

The K-State gardens had a fountain, where Molly learned to swim, so she was excited to go there every night. On this particular night, after her swim, we decided to go for a walk through the gardens. Molly was always excited to see people on our walk and always wanted to say hi.

A short way up the path, Molly noticed a little girl statue sitting among some rose bushes. She got so excited!!  She thought this little girl was real and ran up to her, kissing her, wagging her tail and just wanting to give this little girl all kinds of attention. She kissed and kissed her, but couldn’t get her to move. Then, she kissed her again trying harder… and ended up getting her harness stuck on the girl’s hand. Jacob had to walk in barefoot (in the thorns) and rescue her. After getting back on the sidewalk, Molly stopped and looked back at this girl several times. She didn’t understand why the girl wouldn’t respond to her.

This video makes me smile whenever I see it or even think about it. I’m sure sometime in the future, it will be a video that I will cherish- a video of a peaceful walk in a beautiful garden with a boy and a dog that I love. A memory of our silly puppy and her loving heart…

Update…

Update: I cherish this memory so much now because I lost Miss Molly a year ago to cancer. I am still heartbroken and I still cry every day when I think about her. I still talk to her and I know she walks beside me. This memory makes me smile and cry at the same time, but I wouldn’t give up one day with my beautiful Molly. I cherish the eight wonderful years I had with her and I can’t wait to be reunited with her in heaven one day.

Cherish your memories. Keep them close. Hug your humans and your animals. Spend time with them. Remember that memories are not only the key to the past, but also to the future.

Take care of all of your memories- you cannot relive them.

Until next time,

Hugs and Pug Kisses,

Candy

  1. I love this. I too as many of us, I lost my Winnie Pooh at 6 yrs old to lymphoma. She saved my life literally. Bad divorce I needed meds to sleep to function, after I got her she gave me a purpose, and regulated my life and made me happily a pugaholic.💋❤ Thanks
