This lovable pug, who’s favorite treats are animal crackers, is a cherished companion of Deanna Downing Kellogg, of Nashville, Michigan.

Deanna said she found Hollyberry from someone local- not a breeder but someone who had both the pug mom and dad.

Deanna said Hollyberry sleeps by her leg and that she is a bed hog and snores loud but Deanna loves it.

Deanna said that Hollyberry does not like to have her photo taken- it is hard to get her to look at the camera.

Does not use a kennel, but loves her walks

Hollyberry does not stay in a kennel, according to her mom, but she does love her walks around the neighborhood. Deanna said they go out and walk twice a day around the block so Hollyberry can go potty.

Hollyberry loves to bark at cars turning down their street and people that walk past the house she lives in. She likes to meet other dogs and people, but Deanna said it takes her a bit to warm up to them.

Deanna talks to Hollyberry all the time and she recognizes words such as “get in the car,” “store,” “outside,” and “potty.”

Stays home with no accidents

Hollyberry and her brother stay home with Deanna’s brother most of the time, but if she is left alone, Deanna said she does great- no accidents and she does not get in the garbage.

She has a favorite indoor fish toy that her mom bought at TSC. Hollyberry likes Deanna to throw it so she can chase it.

Struggled with ear issues, but perfect anyway!

Hollyberry had a bout with ear issues. Deanna said they went to a different vet because her usual vet retired. Hollyberrys ear was bleeding and full of dried blood. She squealed in pain and would not come near anyone. The vet office did an earwash, plus did an x-ray, did bloodwork and put her on pain medication. Deanna said she did not improve. They took Hollyberry back to their previous vet for a second opinion. They found out that the earwash was too harsh for her ear. Her ear was raw and filled with puss and the vet could not see her eardrum. They cleaned Hollyberry’s ear with a saline antibiotic and prednisone diluted solution and the next day, it was better. According to her mom, Hollyberry had gotten so she wouldn’t sleep in bed with her and had even lost her bark through the ear trauma.

Her ear is healed now, but because of the length of time it was infected, Hollyberry’s eye on that side did not blink or close for a time and her mouth drooped a little. However, she is back to normal now and 100 percent.

Loves to lay on mom and ride in the car

Hollyberry eats a prescription diet and weighs about 25 pounds. Deanna said they try to maintain her weight by keeping her active.

Hollyberry loves her car rides, but Deanna said not quite as much since she had her ear issue. She wears a harness and is never outside alone.

Hollyberry sleeps a lot, according to Deanna- maybe up to fifteen hours a day, including her naps. Hollyberry loves to watch out the window. According to her mom, “it’s her window to the world.”

Deanna said the best part about having a pug is that it makes her happy- she said Hollyberry is her best friend.

  1. My husband and I raised pugs and Deanna bought her 1st pug, Winnie from us years ago and then she got another one from us years later, Piglet. Unfortunately, Winnie passed and Piglet was alone so she got her little Hollyberry. Deanna is the best pug mom ever and we love her like a daughter. Hollyberry is as precious as you can get and makes senior, Piglet, great little friend.

  2. Hollyberry is a real sweetie pie! She loves her Mommy so much and can’t stand to be away from her for very long. She also loves her brother, King Piglet, and watches out for him like any little sister would a big brother. Both Hollyberry and Piglet love to be with Mommy all the time, but they do love the time they spend with Uncle Don.
