The short answer is YES, at least to some stores. Other stores do not allow dogs, unless they are a service dog.
Do you ever take your dog shopping with you? I love taking my pug, Molly shopping with me because I don’t like to leave her home. And she absolutely loves people (as all pugs do) so she enjoys the interaction she gets with shoppers at the store.
Does Molly ride in a cart? Sometimes and sometimes she prefers to walk. I usually let her decide. If i know it’s going to be a long shopping trip, I almost always get a cart for when she gets tired. If I’m not going to be long, she loves to walk beside me.
Here’s some things to remember if you want to take your dog shopping with you:
- It’s a good idea to call ahead and make sure the store you are shopping at allows dogs. Even though the store says it is pet-friendly, sometimes it’s up to the manager of the store to decide if they allow dogs in that particular store.
- Always keep your dog on a leash. Even though your dog thinks everyone in the store wants to pet him, some people do not like dogs. And some people are scared of dogs. Do not let your dog run up to a person they do not know. Make your dog walk quietly beside you and let other people pet your dog, but only if they ask.
- Make sure you bring doggy poop bags with you because even if your dog has already done his duty, sometimes when a dog gets excited, they need to potty again. Make sure you have a way to clean up after him.
- If a store is going to be super busy, it is NOT a good idea to take your dog. People could step on him and he could get hurt. Ex: DO NOT take your dog shopping on black Friday. That would be a terrible idea. There are way too many people.
