Pug owners are some of the sweetest, most compassionate people I’ve ever met. Does this have to do with the fact that they ARE pug owners? I’d like to think so. Pugs literally live to please their owners. They will do almost anything to make their people happy. They love to entertain their owners and the more you laugh at them, the more they love to entertain us.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that my pug loves me. I can see it in her face… when she reacts to me. I can see it in her eyes… when she looks at me and I can see it in her actions… when she kisses or hugs me.
Here are some ways that your pug says, “I love you.”
**Excitement when they see you or know you are coming home– Yesterday, I took a 4-hour round trip… and I didn’t take Molly with me. She stayed with my mom. I can’t even remember the last time I didn’t take her with me. She’s my co-pilot. She’s ALWAYS with me. It felt so weird to go without her… and it made me sad. My mom talked to me on FaceTime and I got to talk to Molly. Molly was very excited… and so was I. When I was almost home, my mom told Molly to start watching for me. When I walked through the door, Molly was estatic… so was I. I got Molly kisses and hugs and I felt whole again. When Molly hugs me, it’s the best hug ever!!
** When a dog lifts or wiggles their eyebrows, it’s a sign of love– We have known for a long time that when a dog wags his/her tail, they are happy. But… have you ever looked at your dog’s expression when they are happy? Research has shown that when a dog moves an eyebrow or an ear, it is a sign that the dog is happy or approves of the action that is taking place. Watch your dog’s facial expression next time he/she is happy.
**When your dog leans on you, it means they love you– When a person needs comfort or just wants to tell another person they love them, they may lean on them or give them a hug. It’s the same for a dog. When your pug leans on you, it means they trust you and they feel secure. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is. Pugs are extremely affectionate dogs.
** Your pug stays calm when you leave– When your pug completely trusts you and knows you love him, he will stay calm when you leave him. I talk to my pug (always). I tell her I am leaving and I will be back. Me leaving is not her favorite thing to happen, but she does trust what I tell her. It takes a little time to build this trust, but it will happen.
** Yawning together– Your pug yawning shortly after you do is a sign that your dog is emotionally connected to you… or that your pug is watching you closely. Pugs watch their owners closely because they want to please them… and want to be close to them. Normally, a pug’s favorite place is on his owner’s lap.
**Sleeping with you is a sign of love– My pugs always sleep with me- they always have and always will. I know my pugs love me because they want to sleep right next to me. Sleeping next to me is where they feel most secure… and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love it as much as they do.
**Staring directly at you is a sign of love– Scientists have said that when a dog stares directly into your eyes, it’s like a hug. I believe that. It’s a way of bonding with your pug. It makes me feel good because I know Molly is listening… and she’s listening because she wants to please me… and that, my friend, is love.
**Cuddling is a sign of love– Who doesn’t love to cuddle? Dogs are not different and they cuddle with people they love. So… if your pug wants to cuddle with you, you are one very loved person. Cherish every moment you get to cuddle with your pugs.
Every pug owner can tell you that there is something special about a pug. I’m sure other dog owners feel the same way, but being a pug owner is a role that I cherish. These small, lovable dogs find their way into our hearts and our lives… and we cannot imagine our lives without them.
