Do you know how many calories are in some of the foods or snacks that you feed your pugs?

I have been researching this because I am trying to get Molly to lose a few pounds… and we all know how hard it is to get a pug to lose weight. I thought I would share some of my findings with you all:

According to my research, a natural unprocessed diet is always the best option. If a kibble diet is your only option, look at the quality of the food you are feeding. Choose a grain free option and look for a food that is low in carbohydrates.

In order to help your pug lose weight, you will need to be very consistent and strict in the amount of food you give to your pug. To lose weight on a raw diet, feed them 2% of their ideal weight. Once they get to their ideal weight, you can increase that percent to 2.5% to help them maintain that weight.

Pugs love to eat and they love treats. Don’t take treats away from your pug as your trying to get him/her to lose weight: Just choose the right type of treats. The best treats to choose for weight lose is single ingredient treats. What’s a single ingredient treat? A healthy treat that contains only one ingredient that your pug will love.

Fast Food is NOT healthy for your pug. IF you feed fast food, do so in very small amounts.

Here’s the calories for some McDonald’s items:

McDonald’s Cheeseburger: 330 calories

McDonald’s Hamburger: 280 calories

McDonald’s Small French Fry: 250 calories

McDonald’s 4-piece McNugget: 170 calories

This time of year, be sure to monitor what you are feeding your pug. And… make sure everyone else isn’t sneaking your dog a bite or two.

Until next time,

Hugs and Pug Kisses,

Candy
